CHILD SUPPORT Child support is paid by the non-custodial parent to the custodial parent intended to meet the daily living needs of the parties' children. Effective January 1, 2007, child support calculations will take into account the gross incomes of both parties (“income shares”) replacing the long standing and arbitrary statutory percentage support calculations currently in effect. With the significant overhaul to the child support calculations, there undoubtedly will be significant questions from parties and requests for revisions in the support orders. With few exceptions, support orders under current law will not be permitted to be revised under the new law until January 1, 2008. With this transformation in effect, it is important to contact an attorney to determine the fair amount of support you are paying or receiving. |
